The authorities in Pittsburgh closed McKees Rocks Bridge as a precaution after a number of barges broke free on the Ohio River late Friday.
There’s a danger that the barges might come into contact with the “substructure” of the bridge, the McKees Rocks Police Division stated in a press release early Saturday confirming the closure. The division stated it closed the bridge as a result of it was “not keen to take the chance.”
The bridge opened in 1931 and stretches greater than a mile throughout the Ohio River. As a part of the Blue Belt, the innermost of a number of roads that loop round Pittsburgh, the bridge connects Pittsburgh and the borough of McKees Rocks.
Pittsburgh authorities have been conducting a seek for the barges after the primary report at about 11:25 p.m. that a number of barges have been adrift, in response to a shift commander at Allegheny County’s 911 middle. About 15 to twenty barges have been free, she stated. It was unclear early Saturday why the barges had damaged free, or whether or not there have been any accidents or harm, she stated.
A flood warning was in impact till Saturday night in Allegheny County, which incorporates the Ohio River in Pittsburgh, the place water ranges had risen above the flood stage, 25 toes, by early Saturday, in response to the Nationwide Climate Service.
It is a growing story.
